Matty storyline. Moira Dingle has taken drastic measures to protect her son, Matty Barton.

Last week, newcomer Josh pushed his grudge against Matty to a new

level by provoking a brawl at The Hide and shoving Samson into

Matty while he was holding a knife. As a result, Matty has been arrested and could

face serious prison time if convicted of stabbing Samson. In the episode airing on Wednesday, July 18th, on ITV and streaming on ITVX, Amy and Moira visit Matty in prison. They are alarmed to see how distressed he is, noting that he hasn’t showered in days and is missing his medication.

Back in the village, Samson is preparing for work when his uncle, Cain Dingle, arrives to talk about the stabbing. Cain has figured out that Josh instigated the incident and tries to persuade Samson to clear Matty’s name. Samson feels conflicted about Matty being wrongfully imprisoned but fears crossing Josh and refuses to tell the truth.

Moira is outraged to learn that Samson is sticking to his story, so she follows him into The Woolpack. She asks Mackenzie to distract Charity and then traps Samson in the toilets. When Samson tries to escape, Moira shoves him against the wall and presses on his stab wound, warning him that his pain will worsen unless he tells the truth.

Charity and Mackenzie hear Samson’s cries and rush in to break up the confrontation. Mackenzie pulls Moira away as she shouts to Samson, pleading for him to admit the truth and free Matty, who she describes as kind and gentle. Samson aggravates the situation by saying he hopes Matty never gets out, prompting Moira to lunge at him again before being restrained by Mackenzie.

Back at home, Cain warns Moira that her actions could jeopardize Matty’s case. Moira, frustrated, tells Cain that if he were truly the head of the family, he would act like it and support her. She accuses Cain of being weak and not the fearless man she married, expressing her disillusionment with him.
