The walls are finally closing in on Emmerdale villain Tom King,
as it appears his abusive behavior towards his wife Belle Dingle will soon
lead to his downfall. Actor James Chase, who portrays the domestic abuser on the ITV soap,
recently shared insights about his character’s fate after months of manipulation and violence against Belle.
Tom and Belle married on Valentine’s Day, despite Tom’s history of physical abuse.
Belle, trusting that his violent actions were a one-time occurrence, proposed to him,
hoping for a happy marriage. However, the abuse continued, leaving Belle broken and trapped by Tom’s controlling behavior. Recently, Belle discovered she was pregnant and decided to have an abortion without Tom’s knowledge. She plans to flee Emmerdale for her safety, but it’s uncertain if she will follow through.
Addressing the fitting outcome for Tom, actor James Chase emphasized that his character needs to face justice. “I think he has to go to prison at least,” James stated, acknowledging the necessity of public humiliation for Tom’s actions.
He believes that Tom’s storyline must conclude with a severe consequence, either through imprisonment or another form of punishment. “Belle needs justice for what’s happened to her,” James added, expressing that the viewers also need to see Belle triumph or, at the very least, see Tom lose.
Reflecting on Tom’s character arc, James revealed that he always knew this dark storyline was inevitable. Even during the initial months when Tom appeared to be a good guy, James was aware of the eventual turn due to prior agreements.
He emphasized the importance of portraying the storyline realistically, acknowledging that such abuse does happen in real life. “If the audience hates you, it’s a good sign that you’re doing it properly,” he concluded.
As Emmerdale progresses, the question remains whether Tom will be killed by a protective member of Belle’s family or spend a significant portion of his life behind bars for his crimes. One thing is clear: Tom’s reign of terror is nearing its end, and Belle’s justice is on the horizon.
