The end of Yellowstone may have just been delayed. Paramount Network is reportedly set to renew the popular drama series for a sixth season.
According to Puck (via TVLine), Yellowstone regulars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are set to become the new series leads, taking over from Kevin Costner who departed as patriarch John Dutton after Season 5A. The duo, who portray newlyweds Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, are reportedly closing deals to remain on Yellowstone, which returns for Season 5B on Nov. 10, 2024. Reilly and Hauser were previously rumored, alongside Yellowstone co-star Luke Grimes, to be joining the cast of The Madison back when it was still known as 2024. However, that no longer looks to be the case, although it’s possible that Grimes — whose involvement in Yellowstone Season 6 remains unmentioned by Puck — could jump ship for The Madison, but that remains pure speculation at this time.
Yellowstone was not originally set to end with its fifth season. However, after conflicts between creator Taylor Sheridan and Costner led to the actor parting ways with the series for good, Paramount announced that Season 5B would conclude the fan-favorite show, with a sequel series set to continue the Dutton story with “another epic tale.” Initially titled 2024, the sequel series has since evolved into a completely separate project known as The Madison, which, per the official logline, will be a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”
Michelle Pfeiffer Will Headline The Madison
Academy Award-nominated actor Michelle Pfeiffer will lead the cast of The Madison as wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn, with Elle Chapman and Beau Garrett set to play her two daughters, Paige and Abigail, respectively. Suits alum Patrick J. Adams has also been cast as Paige’s husband, while Amiah Miller is set to play Abigail’s eldest daughter. Matthew Fox will also appear as a self-reliant bachelor named Paul, although it’s unclear if he has any familial ties to the other characters at this time. Kurt Russell is also reportedly being eyed for a lead role in The Madison, although there’s no word yet on if he’s actually closed a deal for the spinoff. Production on The Madison will take place later in August in Montana, New York, and Texas.
Yellowstone Season 5B Will be a Tearjerker
The fifth season of Yellowstone, focusing on John Dutton preparing for political war as he takes office as the governor of Montana, aired its first eight episodes between November 2022 and January 2023. The 5A finale saw John plotting with Beth to rub out Jamie (Wes Bentley), the treacherous black sheep of the family, who was scheming with girlfriend Sarah to have a fatal accident befall his father and sister. It remains to be seen how 5B, which comprises the final six episodes, will continue this feuding family storyline, although cast member Ian Bohen has indicated that fans will likely need to keep some tissues nearby while watching.
Yellowstone returns for the back half of its fifth and final season on Nov. 10.
