Lauren’s Return Spells Doom For Joel Deering

Calum Lill has revealed the looming doom for his evil character, Joel Deering. Viewers know Joel is trying to hide his secret after Lauren Bolton’s return. Before the teen disappeared, Joel groomed and sexually abused Lauren, even attacking her violently in her flat.

This prompted her to flee the cobbles for her life. However, earlier this month, she returned pregnant with his baby. Recently, Calum chatted with Digital Spy and shared his thoughts on Joel’s future. He explained that Joel’s character is marked by drive, determination, and a lack of empathy.

He suggested, “I don’t think we’ve seen the worst of Joel yet, and I think he’s going to do whatever it takes to protect what he’s got and his way of life.” The soap star predicted a grim outcome for Joel, noting that Joel tries to juggle various deceptions to avoid being exposed.

He admits that the likelihood of him escaping justice is quite slim. He suggested letting Joel get away with his actions would send the wrong message. He added, “How he finds justice is very interesting, and we’ll have to watch and wait and see.”

Is Joel Underestimating Lauren?

The ITV star implied that Joel might be underestimating Lauren, seeing her as less intelligent and less significant than himself. He speculated, “That stupid view that he has could be something that lands him in trouble further down the line.”

When asked about playing a character with a potentially limited time on the show, Calum described it as ‘bittersweet.’ He expressed admiration for his colleagues, both cast and crew. He mentioned feeling grateful for the substantial story he’s been given, saying he couldn’t ask for more.

Corrie heartthrob also shared his excitement about receiving two nominations for this year’s Inside Soap Awards—one for Best Villain and another for Best Showstopper. He remarked that he had never experienced anything like this before and felt very honoured.
