Coronation Street’s Calum Lill appears to be leaving the ITV soap sooner than expected,

e actor has landed a new role. Calum plays Joel Deering in the ITV soap, the evil solicitor responsible

for preying on vulnerable young women, including Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Earlier this month, Lauren returned to Weatherfield after the residents were led to believe she had been killed by someone. That someone turned out to be Joel, but he successfully managed to frame Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) for the crime.

When she arrived at the hospital to see Roy (David Neilson), it wasn’t long until Lauren came face to face with a very stressed Joel. Flashback scenes then allowed us to discover more about their toxic relationship, as it was established Joel manipulated Lauren into having sex with him and in return, he would give her money to buy food and keep warm.

Just like any other villainous storyline in a soap, this one has a beginning, middle and an end – and it seems that end is closer than we think.

Over the festive period this year, Calum will portray the role of Fleshcreep in Bournemouth Pavilion’s production of Jack & the Beanstalk. Due to the fact ITV doesn’t usually allow stars to feature in panto and a soap at the same time, it certainly suggests we will see the back of Joel Deering very soon.

In upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, Michael (Ryan Russell) and Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) offer to help Joel move a chest of drawers from his old flat and into Dee-Dee’s (Channique Sterling-Brown).

In order to get Lauren out of the flat, Joel hands her money and instructs her to buy some things for their new baby.

When Michael and Ronnie arrive, they get ready to help Joel but when Ronnie takes a look at the fridge and remarks that it’s packed with ready meals for one, the evil man feels paranoid.

It’s a rookie error and proves that someone has been living in Joel’s flat, despite the fact we know he’s been at Dee-Dee’s.

How will Joel respond to this?

‘One thing we definitely know from this is that he is very selfish,’ Calum Lill pondered. ‘He puts his own self-interest above all else, and he seems to lack the empathy that regular people have.

‘So, when you add all of them together, I don’t think we’ve seen the worst of him yet. And who knows where that’s going to go?’
