The soap actress is leaving the cobbles afer 50 years â and her exit will be a âcatalystâ for drama.
Coronation Street insiders have dished the details on the departure of one of
the soapâs most cherished characters. It has been revealed that Gail Platt, a staple of
the show since her first appearance in 1974, will not meet her demise as she exits the programme later this year.
Helen Worth, the 73-year-old actress behind the iconic character, is set to bid farewell to Weatherfield this year, but not in a tragic manner. Instead, show bosses have decided to grant Gail a âhappy endingâ.
Executive producer Iain MacLeod said: âGail wonât die. It didnât feel like killing her off would be right.â
He continued: âGailâs exit is a brilliant story. I thought, âWhat do the viewers want to see?â
âGail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and she disastrous marriages. So, we though what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that what weâre doing.â
