The BBC Soap will tackle parent abuse in a harrowing storyline later this summer, tease EastEnders spoilers. Viewers know that Tommy’s behaviour has become a growing concern in the last few weeks and the situation is going to worsen soon. The Slaters are struggling with Tommy’s hostile behaviour, and Kat will find herself on the receiving end of his anger soon. Read on to find what will happen next!
Tommy’s Erratic Behaviour Creates More Problems; Kat Will Suffer
EastEnders spoilers suggest that viewers will witness Tommy trying to control and dominate Kat. The taxi boss of Walford was seen being punched by her young son in Tuesday’s episode. During the heartbreaking scenes, Kate was shocked to see how far Tommy would go in order to reunite Kate and Walford hardman Phil. This led to a huge row between the mother-son duo.
When Kat begins to show Phil’s real side to Tommy, his anger takes over, and he punches his mum in the stomach before she pushes him back to the floor in self-defence. And now soap bosses have confirmed that this will form part of a summer storyline for the soap as Tommy uses violence to control his mother. It will show the effects this has on their relationship and the whole Slater-Moon family.
The BBC One soap wants to handle this story sensitively. In a bid to do so, they are working closely with Family Based Solutions and PEGS, as well as experts in the field, to ensure the child-to-parent abuse storyline is portrayed accurately. EastEnders has also consulted with the charity NSPCC to discuss broader aspects of the storyline.

While discussing this storyline, Soap boss Chris Clenshaw said, “Kat is well-known in Albert Square for her no-nonsense attitude and fiery temper, but this storyline will explore how Tommy manipulates Kat’s unequivocal love for her son to exert his anger and elicit control. Jessie [Wallace] and Sonny [Kendall]’s performances have thoughtfully portrayed the complex realities of child-to-parent abuse with compassion and understanding, and the storyline will demonstrate how Tommy’s behaviour affects their relationship and the wider Slater-Moon family as a whole.”
Furthermore, the director of PEGS, Michelle John, also spoke about this and explained, “This storyline is a critical turning point for those experiencing child-to-parent abuse (CPA).” They want to raise awareness of the situations parents face across the UK through this.
The organisation really wants to encourage carers, guardians and other parental figures to come forward and seek help for this form of abuse.
