Coronation Street legend Simon Gregson has shared his bleak
verdict on Steve McDonald’s romantic prospects.
The actor, 49, who has played Steve in the ITV soap since 1989,
said that he doesn’t believe his character will ever be lucky in love after seven failed marriages.
When asked if Steve will settle down with a partner on today’s This Morning,
Simon replied: ‘Who knows? I mean bless Steve, he tries. I really don’t know.
He’s trying all sorts of different things. There’s a beard going on at the moment – [lets] see if that gets him anywhere.
‘But, no, I don’t think he’ll ever be lucky in love. I think he’s just destined to be hapless Steve.’
When asked if there was a spark between Steve and Cassie Plummer, played by Claire Sweeney, Simon replied: ‘Yeah there’s a little bit of a spark with Cassie.’
He continued: ‘There’s definitely a spark there. She’s trouble and has a glint in her eye and Steve likes that, so they’re quite similar in ways.’
Teasing, Simon concluded: ‘What happens there? Who knows! You’ll have to keep watching viewers.’
Steve has earned the title of Corrie’s most married character, due to his having been married a whopping seven times to five women.
His list of wives to date comprises of: Victoria Arden (Chloe Newsome), Karen Phillips (Suranne Jones), Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly), Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), and Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh).
Steve’s most recent heartbreak was when prospective girlfriend Demi Mansfield (Lisa Shingler) walked out on him last month.
He’s been unlucky in love ever since wife Tracy ended their relationship for a new life in Spain with former footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn).
However, fingers crossed that Steve might finally meet in the one in the form of Cassie…
