Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has announced he is engaged to his long-term partner.

The actor, best known for playing David Platt on the ITV soap since 2000,

shared the exciting news with his followers on social media this weekend.

The 36-year-old met Hanni Treweek, a former script writer,

when they were both working on Coronation Street.

Posting a series of photos on Instagram, the couple were seen kissing while on

safari in Africa, with the first snap seeing Hanni showing off her new ring.

‘05.06.24 I said YES to forever!!! 💍😍🇹🇿🐘⛺️,’ she captioned the post.

The other photo saw the couple smiling at the camera following the proposal

Their engagement came at the conclusion of a two-week holiday to Tanzania, during which they went on safari in the Serengeti before flying to Zanzibar for a luxury beach break.

It was while on the Serengeti that Jack proposed.

The couple have been together for six years, having first met when Hanni worked on the soap in the press office.

She then went on to become a storyliner on the long-running series before quitting to become an influencer.

The pair were quickly flooded with messages of support from family, friends and co-stars, with Jack’s on-screen wife Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Platt commenting: ‘Such beautiful news! Congratulations to you both, absolutely perfect couple.’

His former co-star Michelle Keegan, who played Jack’s love interest Tina, wrote: ‘Awww congratulations to you both.’

Meanwhile Alan Halsall added: ‘😍Congratulations to the pair of you xx.’

Other Corrie stars who offered their congratulations include Paula Lane, who shared: ‘So strange I had such a feeling about this when I saw your adventure! Huge congratulations both of you xxx.’

Jack’s on-screen son Paddy Bever sent a love heart emoji while Georgia May Foote added: ‘Aww congratulations guys!!!! X.’

Who is Jack P Shepherd’s fiancée?

Jack and Hanni first met in 2017 when she worked on Coronation Street.

The influencer currently has 22,000 followers on Instagram, where she posts content about her private life, fashion and travels.

Speaking about how they met, Jack told OK! Magazine in 2020: ‘We met at Corrie but we only really knew each other to say hello to at work.’

‘Then our mutual friends got married and we were both guests at the wedding. We got chatting, I made Hanni laugh, we had a couple of drinks and we flirted. That was it.’

At that time, Hanni also said they had a conversation early on about marriage and kids as she ‘wanted to check Jack was open to having more children’.

‘When kids are involved you need to have those serious conversations quite quickly, but we knew early on we wanted to have children together and we were serious about each other,’ she told the publication.

Jack has played hairdresser David in the soap for 24 years after he joined as a child star in 2000.

He was previously in a relationship with Lauren Shippey for fifteen years from 2002 to 2017, with the couple sharing two children together: daughter Nyla and son Reuben.

During his relationship with Lauren, Shepherd also fathered a son with Sammy Milewski following a one-night stand.
