Viewers of tonight’s (September 11) National Television Awards were left scratching their heads at a brief
technical hiccup that happened during the broadcast.
During the Reality Competition nominations, the video clip for Race Across the World (which showed
Alfie and Owen arriving at the final checkpoint and discovering they had won) briefly showed a still
of Coronation Street‘s Bill Mayhew and Paul Foreman.
It was a blink-and-you’d-miss-it moment, especially as the sound of the Race Across the World clip kept playing, which had people watching it wondering if it had only happened to them.
But looking at all the social media posts about it, it clearly happened to everyone. A few viewers jokingly referred to the error as a “jumpscare” and broke out the reaction GIFs (with more than one use of Abby from Dance Moms).

The Billy and Paul moment was then used as a clip for the Serial Drama Performance award nomination, in which Paul actor Peter Ash was competing.
He won the award, and on stage, he thanked his cast members, the soap’s writers, directors, and other behind-the-scenes staff, and the Motor Neurone Disease Association for working with Corrie on the storyline.
He gave his final and most special thanks to Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy, and bade farewell to his six years on the soap (Paul’s final episode aired earlier this week).
Meanwhile, Race Across the World was beaten to the Reality Competition award by The Traitors, and Claudia Winkleman used the moment to have a cheeky dig at winner Harry Clark.
